Welcome to Moraga

Peaceful and private community in a beautiful bucolic setting.

Moraga is a peaceful Contra Costa town in a setting that ranges from suburban to semi-rural. Nestled within the hills beyond the sprawling Redwood Regional Park to the east of Oakland, Moraga is known for its outstanding local schools, calm community atmosphere, surrounding trails, and open space. While residents value Moraga’s blissful sense of isolation, the town also has a variety of great shops and restaurants. For commuters, Moraga is within an hour of San Francisco and less than 30 minutes from both Berkley and Oakland.

Moraga real estate includes lavish custom-built houses and charming California ranch-style homes that rise into its rolling hillsides. Spacious and private, these properties often offer awe-inspiring views of Mt. Diablo and the beautiful surrounding landscape. Gated communities such as Sanders Ranch and Bellavista provide privacy and exclusivity, while homes surrounding Moraga Country Club enjoy an enviable lifestyle close to first-class amenities.

People & Lifestyle

The highly-regarded schools of the Moraga and Acalanes Union High School districts are a major draw for young families, and more than a third of households contain children under the age of 18. Moraga is also popular among affluent urban professionals looking for an accessible retreat from the bustle of the Bay Area’s biggest cities. There’s a strong sense of community in Moraga, with locals enjoying many outdoor events together during the balmy summer months.

Dining, Entertainment & Shopping

Rheem Valley Shopping Center
is Moraga’s commercial hub. Anchored by a TJ Maxx and CVS Pharmacy, the shopping center houses restaurants, juice bars, a fresh vegetable mart, and a movie theater. Locals are particularly fond of Homegoods, which has a wide array of handcrafted items for the home.

Standout Moraga restaurants include authentic Italian cooking at Amoroma and delectable Sichuan and Mandarin dishes at Chef Chao. Ranch House and Town Bakery & Cafe are perfect places to start off the morning with breakfast or brunch, and you can grab a quick and tasty lunch or dinner at Noodle Theory or Golden Palace.

Things to Do

Moraga’s strong sense of community comes to the forefront during seasonal events like the Moraga Pear Festival. This family-friendly event offers pies prepared from pears harvested at local orchards, wine tastings, and children’s activities every September. The Pear Festival takes place at Moraga Commons Park, which has year-round facilities including picnic areas, a playground, volleyball and bocce courts, and a skate park. A free Summer Concert Series takes place at Moraga Commons Park on Thursdays from June until August, and it hosts a Holiday Tree Lighting in December.

Fourth of July celebrations take place at both Moraga Commons Park and Moraga Country Club. The Country Club’s exquisite 6,150-yard Robert Muir Graves-designed course winds around hills, canyons, and creeks. Other facilities available to club members include a 22,000-square-foot clubhouse with a lounge and upscale dining room, 12 tennis courts, and an outdoor heated lap pool.

Moraga has an excellent farmers market, offering delicious and sustainable meat and produce from nearby farmers. Though it is small, what it lacks in size it makes up for in quality--the market is ranked the 10th-best in the nation according to American Farmland Trust.

St. Mary’s College of California is located within the community, home to approximately 4,000 students. The men’s basketball team is consistently ranked as one of the best in the country, and locals enjoy attending games at McKeon Pavilion to cheer on the Gaels--especially during March Madness.
